Sri Lanka, July 7 -- Former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra's appeal challenging her conviction and three-year prison sentence over the 2015 abduction of a youth has been fixed for argument before the Court of Appeal on August 6.

The appeal was fixed for argument when the matter came up before a two-judge bench comprising Justices P. Kumararatnam and Pradeep Hettiarachchi.

Hirunika Premachandra is seeking to set aside the judgement delivered by the Colombo High Court which convicted her on 18 charges arising from the abduction incident. The charges included conspiring to abduct, aiding and abetting the abduction, and threatening, assaulting and intimidating the victim, Amila Priyankara, following the abduction.
