Bus fare revision distorted - LPBOA
Sri Lanka, July 6 -- The Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) states that the proposed annual bus fare revision is a distortion.
LPBOA President Gemunu Wijerathne said the Government has deliberately neglected its responsibility to regulate fares properly.
He noted that there are over 10,000 short-distance buses and around 3,000 long-distance buses operating in the country. He said that announcing two different fare structures for these two types of services would cause immense hardship to the public.
Furthermore, Wijerathne raised concerns regarding what would happen to the 12 percent fare revision allocated for short-distance services if fuel prices drop further in the future.
