BRICS delegates impressed by Sanchi's Buddhist heritage and architecture
Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- Representatives from BRICS member countries have expressed their admiration for the rich Buddhist heritage, historical significance and centuries-old architectural traditions of Sanchi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Madhya Pradesh, India.
A 42-member delegation representing 11 BRICS countries, including Brazil, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Russia and Thailand, visited the Sanchi sacred site on August 8 as part of their programme in India.
Sanchi, whose Buddhist monuments date back to the third century BC and the reign of Emperor Ashoka, was described by the delegates as a remarkable testament to the ancient civilisation of India and the enduring message of Buddhism and world peace.
