Sri Lanka, July 17 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday said that country faces a challenge in repaying its external debt of around US$ 5 to 6 billion by 2030.

"We have got time till 2028 to repay our debt and by 2030 we will be in full repayment mode going up to US$ 5 to 6 billion," he said.

The Former President viewed that borrowing additional funds is not a sustainable solution, as it would only increase the country's debt burden."The most effective way to manage and repay this debt is through sustained and rapid economic growth. The faster the economy grows, the easier it becomes to generate the revenue needed to meet debt obligations while maintaining essential public services," he added .
