SriLanka, Sept. 24 -- The Justice and National Integration Ministry has gazetted, the "Bill to Protect the State from Terrorism", prepared with the objective of introducing new legislation in place of the existing Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The new Bill has been drafted with the objective of repealing the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act, No. 49 of 1979, and providing for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

A key objective of the new Bill is to protect the country and its people from terrorist activities occurring within or outside Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on preventing the use of Sri Lankan territory or Sri Lankan citizens for international terrorist activities.
