Batticaloa shrimp farmers affected by Ditwah get millions in assistance
Sri Lanka, June 30 -- Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar distributed financial assistance of Rs. 9.55 million to 30 shrimp farmers in Batticaloa District who were affected by the Ditwah disaster.
The cheque distribution took place last week at the Old Batticaloa District Secretariat Auditorium under the patronage of Batticaloa District Secretary J.S. Arulraj.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that safeguarding the livelihoods of fishermen and aquaculture farmers affected by natural disasters is a key responsibility of the Government. He added that relief and recovery measures are being implemented continuously for those impacted.
