Battery energy storage systems at 16 grid substations near completion
Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- Construction work on commercial-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) planned for installation at 16 grid substations across the country has reached its final stage, the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation announced.
The battery systems were imported through the Port of Colombo in three shipments between May and June.
Meanwhile, construction of a battery energy storage project being developed by a private company near the Anuradhapura Grid Substation is approximately 85% complete.
The systems are designed to store excess electricity generated by solar power systems during the daytime and release it to the national grid at night based on electricity demand.
