Sri Lanka, July 30 -- Between 50 to 60 Sri Lankans die of various cancers everyday.
Expressing concern over the situation of cancer patients who are reported from many parts of the country, the Sri Lanka Cancer Society (SLCS) stressed the country's cancer deaths could be minimised not only with early detection but by refraining from consuming sweet soft drinks, alcohol, tobacco products, genetically modified foods (GM foods) and betel products.
The Cancer Society made these remarks at a cancer awareness seminar in the Katana Divisional Secretariat office auditorium. About 60 office workers, outsiders and school children attended the seminar conducted by SLCS Public Education Officer Merril Perera.
