Army Commander visits family of fallen soldier who served in final stages of war
Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne, Commander of the Army, recently visited the family of Staff Sergeant H. P. S. Bandara at their residence in Hevadivela, Dulmune, to inquire into their well-being and future needs.
Staff Sergeant H. P. S. Bandara, who served with the 4th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, was awarded the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) for his bravery in combat.
He made the ultimate sacrifice on May 17, 2009, during a battle near the Nanthikadal Lagoon, where he stood against enemy attacks and protected fellow soldiers despite the danger to his own life. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in recognition of his bravery.
