Sri Lanka, July 15 -- The probability of a super El Nino event, which could have a significant impact on Sri Lanka's weather, has increased to 81% for the October to December period this year, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Director General of the Department of Meteorology Ajith Wijemanna said the latest reports issued by international weather forecasting agencies show clear indications of the developing climate pattern.

He said the initial effects of El Nino are already evident in Sri Lanka's weather, with the southwest monsoon recording below-normal rainfall for this time of the year and daytime temperatures feeling noticeably higher.
