Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- The Government has approved a proposal to install 300,000 smart metres across the country, incorporating a Time-of-Use billing system, as part of the initial steps to modernise Sri Lanka's electricity grid.Government
The project, to be funded using the remaining US$ 12.5 million from an Asian Development Bank loan, will be implemented by Electricity Distribution Lanka (Pvt) Ltd over a period of two years.
The funding stems from a US$ 15 million loan facility approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on October 21, 2024, obtained through the Asian Development Bank's Small Expenditure Financing Facility to support supplementary projects strengthening the country's renewable energy efforts.
