Sri Lanka, March 27 -- Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Upali Pannilage says 2025 recorded the highest debt repayment in Sri Lanka's history.Sri Lanka Recovery

The Minister made the remarks while addressing a programme in Kurunegala held to brief representatives of Community Development Councils.

He stated that although many believed the country's highest debt burden would fall in 2028, the government repaid $3.9 billion in debt in 2025, making it the year with the largest repayment.

According to the Minister, the debt repayment scheduled for 2028 stands at $3.2 billion, which is lower than the amount repaid in 2025.
