SriLanka, Sept. 21 -- Thirteen people, including six children, have been admitted to hospital following a collision involving 11 vehicles on the Southern Expressway near Gelanigama, police said.

The accident occurred on the Gelanigama-Dodangoda stretch when a bus travelling from Matara to Colombo, reportedly carrying schoolchildren, collided with a cab, causing several vehicles travelling behind to crash into one another.

The vehicles involved in the accident included two buses and six cars.

Following the accident, Colombo-bound traffic travelling from Galle has been diverted through the Dodangoda interchange due to the obstruction on the expressway.
