'We have sufficient fertiliser stocks for 2026 Yala season'
Sri Lanka, May 22 -- Despite global supply chain challenges and disruptions tied to the Middle East conflict, Sri Lanka's Government has secured sufficient fertiliser stocks for the 2026 Yala season.
Active distribution is ongoing islandwide through government and private sector channels to ensure farmers have uninterrupted access, Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Minister Upali Pannilage told Parliament yesterday.
"Around 81 percent of the population lives in rural areas, and roughly 2 million Sri Lankans are involved specifically in paddy farming. We have to protect them by fulfilling their needs.
