UN opens Sh43.8 bbillion expanded Nairobi offices with calls for justice for Global South
Nairobi, May 12 -- President William Ruto on Monday said the expanded United Nations complex in Nairobi could boost Kenya's international role in multilateral relations.
Dr Ruto joined UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in breaking ground and opening completed phases of the UN Conference Facilities in Gigiri.
The $340 million (Sh43.8 billion) project was approved by the UN General Assembly 18 months ago.
The main hall for conferences can now host 7,000 people from the original 2,000.
The renovations included installing facilities to comply with international standards for safety, health and accessibility, especially for people with special needs.
