Nairobi, April 14 -- Two people were shot dead Tuesday when chaos erupted at Ishiara area in Embu County during a demonstration against poor health services.

Several others suffered gunshot injuries and were rushed to various health facilities with bullets lodged in their bodies.

The two young men died on the spot when riot police opened fire on residents who were demonstrating over the poor state of Ishiara Level Four hospital in Mbeere North Constituency.

Angry residents then dumped the bodies at Ishiara police station. 

Locals said the key hospital is in a deplorable state, citing blocked toilets, lack of an ambulance and dilapidated buildings.

The rioters attempted to storm the hospital but were repulsed by police.
