Nairobi, April 25 -- Paying taxes is a fundamental patriotic duty that enables the government to meet its financial obligations, such as providing healthcare, education, and security services, and building infrastructure. However, there should be no sacred cows.
The taxation system must be fair, equitable, and free from discrimination. Effective tax collection boosts national development and reduces reliance on debts.
It is, therefore, shocking that employees of President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party have been spared mandatory deductions such as Pay as You Earn, Social Health Insurance Fund and Housing Levy contributions for three years.
