Nairobi, May 3 -- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has unveiled plans to deploy a special police unit to Kerio Valley in a renewed crackdown on the manufacture and consumption of illicit brews, while also taking disciplinary action against a local administrator accused of promoting alcoholism.

Speaking in Metkei in Keiyo South during a youth and women empowerment drive, Mr Murkomen warned of stern action against National Government officers and security personnel found to be complicit in the trade of second-generation alcohol.

"The government will not relent in its fight against illegal alcohol, even if it means deploying a special unit to crack down on individuals behind the consumption of outlawed brews," he said.
