Nairobi, May 2 -- The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) has celebrated the 12 per cent general wage increase by President William Ruto on Labour Day as the highest increment that workers have ever received over the years.
Cotu Secretary-General Francis Atwoli said over the years, employees, on the general wage bit, have received only between five and eight per cent increases.
"I can tell you, we do not always negotiate up to a 12 per cent increment. Most of the time it fluctuates between six, five or eight per cent. Whatever happened is good news to workers," said the trade unionist.
The trade unionist's reaction came following the 2026 Labour Day celebrations held at Chavakali High School, Vihiga County, on May 1.
