Uganda, April 11 -- Workers in Uganda tighten their belts in 2025 sending less money abroad to loved ones, with remittances outflows dropping to Shs1.45 trillion ($402 million), down from Shs1.8 trillion ($502 million) in 2024.

According to the Bank of Uganda's Cross Border Remittance Report released early this month, the decrease was accompanied by a drop in transactions, from 2.66 million in 2024 to 2.12 million in 2025.

India remained the top recipient of Uganda's remittance outflows, followed by Kenya, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The report attributed the decline to various factors, including changes in global economic conditions and shifts in remittance patterns.
