Uganda, May 13 -- Police in Buyende District are investigating the drowning of two fishermen following a boat accident on Lake Kyoga at Walumbe Village, Itamia Ward, in Kidera Town Council.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 5pm.

According to police, the fishermen had set out onto the lake using illegal fishing gear shortly before the tragedy struck.

Busoga North police spokesperson, Samson Lubega, identified the deceased as: Simon Osina, 22 and Peter Kirya, 20, both residents of Kidera Town Council.

"Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds allegedly overpowered the boat, causing it to capsize and the two fishermen to drown," Mr Lubega stated.
