Uganda, May 2 -- It's a bleak future for 82 of 173 special needs students pursuing various courses at Kyambogo University, due to the shortage of support personnel to guide them during their learning processes.
The students dearly require the aid of Ugandan sign language interpreters, sighted guides, mobility support assistants, note takers and transcribers, among others, which the university is unable to provide.
Kyambogo University has a total of 173 special needs students enrolled this academic year and 14 staff with disabilities, Dr Paul Emong, the head of Kyambogo Disability Support Service, said.
