Uganda, April 8 -- For the first time in 26 years, joy has returned among more than 3,000 families in Ongwengai village, Kamuda Sub-county, Soroti district, who were depending on unclean water from Lake Kyoga for drinking and domestic usage.

The locals regularly suffered waterborne diseases, owing to the unclean water sources, which were also shared by animals.

However, on Tuesday, there was relief after a hand pump borehole constructed by AADHIRA Solutions Limited, with funding from the government, was launched in the area.

"For us here, we have been drinking lake water and from the stream, and the water is as white as milk", said Ms Alice Apiny, a resident of Ongwengai village.
