Soroti city earmarks Shs49m to rehabilitate 22-year-old mortuary
Uganda, May 13 -- The Soroti City Council has earmarked Shs 49 million for the rehabilitation of the City mortuary, which was already in a sorry state.
The facility, located in Nakatunya Ward, was constructed in 2004, with the capacity to accommodate 30 corpses at a time, but since then, it has not undergone any major repair.
It lacks key equipment such as the freezers for preserving bodies, its structures have also cracked, the roof ceilings are falling apart, and the fence has been vandalised, with animals roaming for grass.
On Monday, Soroti City authorities handed over the facility to Mr Samuel Oranit, the City Engineer, to kick start the six-month-long repair works, which will only refurbish the doors and windows.
