Uganda, April 19 -- A demolition exercise targeting illegal kiosks in Namutumba Town Council has triggered allegations of bribery and selective enforcement, with affected traders accusing local officials of sparing some structures while demolishing others.
Town authorities on Friday began removing kiosks along various streets, including sections of the Iganga-Mbale Highway, in what officials said was an effort to restore order and enforce planning regulations.
But several traders now claim the exercise was compromised by corruption, alleging that some kiosk owners who reportedly paid bribes were spared.
