Reverand once detained over presidential pledges seeks closer ties with Museveni to boost tourism
Uganda, May 16 -- The newly sworn-in Mayor of Fort Portal, Rev Willy Kintu Muhanga, has pledged to work closely with President Museveni and the central government to accelerate development in Uganda's tourism city.
Rev Muhanga, an independent candidate who defeated the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party contender in the January 2026 elections, said his administration would seek stronger institutional and financial support for the western Uganda city.
Among his proposals is relocating the headquarters of the Uganda Tourism Board and potentially the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to Fort Portal.
