Private Sector wants 30% tax dispute deposit rule removed
Uganda, April 29 -- A coalition of Uganda's leading business associations has petitioned the government for urgent reforms to a contentious tax law that requires companies to pay 30 percent of disputed taxes before their cases can be heard.
The petition, dated April 24, 2026 and received by the Ministry of Finance on April 27, has been submitted on behalf of the private sector and copied to key government offices, including Parliament.
It is backed by major industry players such as the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA), Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), Uganda Insurers Association (UIA), Uganda Bankers Association (UBA), among others.
