Uganda, April 22 -- Concerns are growing over pharmacy graduates entering the workforce without clear specialisation pathways, a gap stakeholders say is weakening readiness for Uganda's evolving specialised healthcare system.

This has prompted calls for a review of the pharmacy curriculum to better support specialisation, with stakeholders warning that existing training gaps could undermine essential healthcare delivery and local drug manufacturing efforts.

The issue was raised during the 6th Uganda Pharmaceutical Symposium 2026 in Kampala, where participants cited weaknesses in education, research and regulation as key challenges affecting the development of a skilled pharmaceutical workforce.
