Over 50 families displaced as River Malaba floods Tororo villages
Uganda, May 4 -- More than 50 families in Malaba Town Council in Tororo District are counting losses after River Malaba burst its banks in the early hours of Sunday, washing away crops and livestock.
The floods affected Amoni "A" and Amoni "B" cells in Asinge Ward, as well as Kataboi "A" and Kataboi "B" cells in Akolodongo Ward, areas that border the river and have long been prone to flooding.
Local leaders said the flooding struck while residents were asleep, leaving little chance for rescue.
