Nwoya struggles to manage TB, Leprosy as cases surge
Uganda, April 9 -- Stigmatisation of patients is straining the fight against leprosy and Tuberculosis (TB) in Nwoya district, health authorities have said.
With between 6 and 8 cases of TB cases registered weekly and six cumulative cases of leprosy registered annually, the health workers note that stigma is disrupting diagnosis and treatment aimed at eliminating the diseases.
In February this year, 16 cases of TB were confirmed during health outreaches conducted in 11 sub-counties and town councils. 5,956 individuals were examined, and 611 underwent X-ray.
