Uganda, May 7 -- A magistrate's court in Kampala has remanded a registration assistant attached to the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) on allegations of unlawful disclosure and processing of personal data without consent. Douglas Kaaya, also known as Kasozi, a resident of Buziga in Makindye Division, Kampala, appeared before Makindye grade one magistrate, Asuman Muhumuza and denied the charges. According to the prosecution, Kaaya and others still at large allegedly disclosed sensitive National Identity Card details belonging to one Scovia Nabulime to an individual identified as Umar Bashir, without authorization from NIRA.
