New Jinja mayor pledges crackdown on corruption, land grabbing
Uganda, May 16 -- The newly sworn-in Jinja City Mayor, Mr Abdulhafidh Nagaya, has pledged to tackle corruption and strengthen accountability in service delivery as he begins his term leading one of Uganda's key commercial cities.
Mr Nagaya, a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), was sworn in alongside directly elected councillors during a ceremony presided over by Ms Sheila Fiona Angura, Chief Magistrate of Jinja Court, at City Gardens on Friday.
He officially takes over from former mayor Mr Peter Kasolo Okocha of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who was absent from the ceremony.
