NCHE moves to strengthen law to close non-compliant universities
Uganda, May 14 -- The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has revealed plans to strengthen the law governing higher education institutions to enable the closure of non-compliant universities and tertiary institutions, citing persistent challenges caused by court injunctions and weak enforcement mechanisms.
The NCHE Executive Director, Prof Mary Okwakol, said the regulator is currently drafting regulations and pursuing amendments to the law to strengthen its enforcement powers against institutions that fail to comply with academic and operational standards.
