Uganda, April 23 -- Uganda's private sector has emerged as the largest formal employer, according to findings from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) 2023/2024 National Human Resource (manpower) Survey report, which estimates total employment in formal establishments at 2,204,918 workers.

The report indicates that of these jobs, 1,701,180 are employed in the private sector compared to 503,738 in the public sector, reinforcing the private sector's central role in the country's labour market. Officials note that the trend reflects a steady shift in employment creation.
