Uganda, April 13 -- Health workers in Soroti have urged women to prioritise screening for cervical cancer and testing for Sexually Transmitted Diseases to know their status.

The call comes barely two months after 20 out of 419 women screened for cervical cancer from Soroti Regional Hospital presented advanced cases.

Sr Rachael Adong, a midwife at the hospital, says there are still communication gaps relating to cancer, hence costing some lives.

"We realised that most of our communities lack information on cervical cancer; this is why we conducted an awareness campaign programme on the disease, " Sr Adong said.
