Masaka court hands jail term to Rwandan duo over fake HIV cure claims
Uganda, May 5 -- A magistrate's court in Masaka has convicted two Rwandan nationals for spreading misleading information about HIV/AIDS after they sold herbal medicine falsely claiming it could cure the disease.
On Tuesday, Festo Katanye Mugabe, 37, a resident of Kanombe in Kigali, and Nathan Karamuzi Kadogo, 28, a resident of Kyotera District, appeared before Grade One Magistrate Abdallah Kayiza.
Prosecutor Michael Wakosase told the court that on April 30 at Golf Lane Hotel in Masaka, the two sold herbal medicine to people living with HIV/AIDS at prices ranging from Shs150,000 to Shs300,000, claiming it could cure the disease.
