Uganda, May 5 -- The deployment of electric buses in Kampala City by the Kampala Capital City Authority and Kiira Motors has irked taxi operators, saying it is a conflict of interest and creates unfair competition.
Last week, the KCCA launched eight electric buses owned by Kiira Motors on a handful of city routes as a pilot project increased more government-backed environment friendly public service vans.
Mr Rashid Ssekindi, the leader of Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF), said the deployment of government funded buses that are exempted from taxes creates unlevelled ground and it is threatening to destroy jobs of private public service.
