Uganda, May 3 -- Stakeholders in Uganda's Kigezi sub-region have warned that the proposed Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026 could create inequality and undermine civic space if passed without broader consultation and revisions.
Speaking to journalists in Kabale District on Saturday, the Executive Director of Kick Corruption Out of Uganda, a CSO, Mr Robert Kakuru Byamugisha, said the bill's provisions do not fully align with its stated nationalistic intent.
"The law must be inclusive and serve all Ugandans without segregation. I urge Members of Parliament, especially from the Kigezi sub-region, to engage widely with stakeholders and revise the bill accordingly. If the proposed law cannot meet the standards of fairness and inclusivity,...
