Uganda, April 7 -- Authorities in Kabale and Rubanda districts in Kigezi sub-region have launched a vaccination exercise to save goats and sheep from the deadly Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) disease, which was confirmed in the area two months ago.
The disease, also known as goat plague, is highly contagious and viral, and has killed dozens of domestic animals.
"Our teams are on the ground carrying out vaccination exercise and radio announcements have been made detailing the dates and venue," said Dr Angella Anyongyeire, Kabale district veterinary officer.
The vaccination exercise targets uninfected goats and sheep, and farmers are advised to have their animals vaccinated to prevent further deaths.
