Uganda, May 6 -- A domestic dispute over food turned fatal in western Uganda after a man allegedly killed his toddler during a violent altercation with his wife, local authorities said.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Mughete Village, Kitabu Sub-county, where the suspect, identified as Zalimon Bwambale, is accused of attacking his wife before striking the child.

According to local leader Robert Bwambale, the quarrel began when the suspect returned home late and was dissatisfied with the meal prepared.

"It is believed that he came back in the middle of the night and found beans and kalo (obundu) prepared for supper. He demanded a better meal, which triggered a quarrel," he said.
