Uganda, May 12 -- Fishing communities on Lake Edward, Lake George and the Kazinga Channel in Kasese and Rubirizi districts want the government to rethink a new fisheries directive limiting each landing site to 33 boats, saying it is unrealistic and threatens their livelihoods.
The directive, which began being enforced late last month, allows only 33 licensed boats per landing site. Kasese Resident District Commissioner Lt. Joe Walusimbi said it is part of efforts to curb illegal fishing.
