Uganda, April 16 -- The government has waged war on poverty in the Lango sub-region by distributing free coffee seedlings in schools and communities, an initiative being undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).

The move launched on Wednesday at the Lira City Mayor's Garden. The Coffee Regional Coordinator for Lango Sub-region, Mr Andrew Okello, said that in the past, there had been a public misconception that coffee doesn't grow in Lango Sub-region, making people concentrate only on growing cotton, which has low demand and price.

Besides coffee distribution, he noted that the government has equally embarked on training farmers to tap into the lucrative industry, which was once neglected.
