Govt to penalise road contractors over delays
Uganda, May 11 -- The government has launched a review of contracts awarded to underperforming contractors under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP), citing persistent delays in the implementation of the multi-billion-shilling infrastructure project.
The State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, Mr Kabuye Kyofatogabye, said some contractors had failed to meet agreed timelines despite the programme operating under strict implementation schedules. Speaking to the Daily Monitor yesterday, Mr Kyofatogabye said while several local and international firms had delivered work on time and to the required standards, others were lagging behind and risked sanctions, including possible contract reviews....
