Uganda, April 28 -- The Ministry of Works and Transport has launched a new guide to promote proper helmet use among motorcycle riders and passengers, in a bid to reduce road crash deaths.
Boda-bodas remain a vital mode of transport across Uganda, bridging mobility gaps and supporting livelihoods. However, they are also a leading contributor to road crashes and fatalities.
According to the Uganda Police annual crime report for 2025, around 2,525 of the 5,383 people killed in road crashes were motorcyclists.
The ministry, working with Safe Way Right Way, said wearing a certified motorcycle helmet can reduce the risk of death by up to 37 percent and prevent 65 percent of serious head injuries.
