Uganda, April 29 -- Fish cage farmers on Lake Victoria are counting losses after a massive floating vegetation swept through Masese Landing Site, destroying aquaculture infrastructures worth Shs300m.

Locally known as Sudd, the vegetation is reported to have originated from Wanyage in Jinja North division, and was dislodged by heavy rains and strong currents before drifting across the lake.

When it reached Masese Landing Site, it disrupted boat transport routes, blocking vessels from Buvuma Island from docking, and later damaged more than 20 fish cages belonging to local farmers.
