Uganda, May 4 -- The family of a detained Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) officer has petitioned the High Court, seeking orders to compel the military to produce him in court after more than a year of uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts.

Capt Amis Ainebyona, through his father-in-law, Joseph Ddungu Ssempijja, has filed a habeas corpus application, arguing that the officer has been held for an extended period without lawful justification and outside the oversight of any competent court.

In the application before the Civil Division of the High Court, the family is asking the court to compel the Attorney General, the Chief of Defence Forces, the Joint Staff in charge of Defence Intelligence and Security, and the Commandant of the...
