Uganda, April 21 -- Residents and leaders in Kalangala District have paid tribute to fallen Woman Member of Parliament Helen Nakimuli, as fresh details emerged about her final moments before a surgery that ended in her death.

Nakimuli died on April 19, 2026 at Alexander Medical Centre following an unsuccessful operation.

Addressing mourners during a special district council session held in her honour on Tuesday, her sister Irene Nampala said the legislator had remained strong and optimistic before being taken to theatre.

"We engaged in a conversation shortly before she went to the theatre. She had promised to get back strong but unfortunately, she never managed to get back to us alive as she promised," Nampala said.
