Uganda, April 21 -- The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the electoral programme for the Kikuube District chairperson by-election, with polling day set for June 10, 2026.

The by-election will fill the vacancy left by the late district chairperson Peter Banura, who died in a road crash on April 4, shortly after being re-elected in the recently concluded general elections.

Under the Local Governments Act (Cap 243), the Electoral Commission is required to organise a by-election within six months whenever a district chairperson dies in office.

In a statement dated April 17, EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said the exercise will begin with a stakeholders' meeting on April 27, bringing together key actors, including the media. ...
