Uganda, April 19 -- A sharp divide has emerged between a section of Opposition lawmakers and their counterparts in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) camp as the House Finance Committee enters the final stages of preparing its report on new tax proposals.

The report is expected to be tabled in Parliament between Tuesday and Thursday. Although the Order Paper for last Wednesday indicated the proposals would be debated and passed, Speaker Anita Among deferred the matter to this week.

"From 21st to 24th April, we will consider the tax and revenue Bills," Speaker Among ruled as she opened the plenary sitting.
