13 women eye Kalangala Woman MP seat
Uganda, May 8 -- At least 13 women in Kalangala have expressed interest in contesting for the district Woman Member of Parliament seat, following the death of former legislator Helen Nakimuli last month.
Eleven of the aspirants are seeking the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, setting the stage for a competitive internal selection ahead of the anticipated by-election.
Among the aspirants in the NUP camp include Ms Irene Nampala - a sister to the late Nakimuli, Ms Jessica Nasiwa Tusabe, Ms Roy Nakigozi, Ms Mary Goreti Namuddu, who contested for the party card in 2021, Ms Beatrice Nanyomo Kirabo, Dr Mary Nakitende, Ms Alice Namugerwa, Ms Aisha Nantaayi, Ms Maria Nakitendde a journalist, Ms Irene Nakanwagi, the district woma...
